*Call to Worship
Leader: Give thanks to the Lord.  Call upon the holy name of the most-high God.
People: The Lord is our strength and our salvation.
Leader: Proclaim the mercy of the One who comes as one of us.
People: The Lord is our strength and our salvation.
Leader: Trust and do not be afraid.
People: The Lord is our strength and our salvation.
Leader: With joy you will draw water from the wells of peace.
All: The Lord is our strength and our salvation.

O God, surely you are our salvation.  We begin this day without fear, trusting you, for you are our strength.  Help us to meditate day and night, knowing that you are rejoicing in your children.  Keep us keenly aware, as we travel through this season of Advent, of ways we may evidence our trust in your peace. Renew our love for your world and one another.  Be our heavenly peace. We pray through the name of Jesus. Amen.

Call to Confession

As John the Baptist called the people to repent, so Jesus calls to us. In these quiet moments, let us turn to the one God who Is both judge and Savior; trusting that repentance opens the door to peace beyond all measure.  Together, let us pray.

Our Prayer of Common Confession

In your presence, Holy God, we confess our need for repentance.

We have broken your commandments,

We do not live in peace with your creation or people.

We have not trusted your Word, and we are afraid.

Forgive us, restore us, and turn our shame into praise,

            for the sake of the One who proclaims the good news

and for the sake of all the world.

Now and forevermore. Amen.

All offer prayers of confession in silence.

Declaration of Forgiveness

O Hear the good news.

Christ died for us while we were yet sinners;

that proves God’s love toward us.

In the name of Jesus Christ, you are forgiven!

In the name of Jesus Christ, you are forgiven!

Glory be to God.  Now and Forever.  Amen.

Sermon                      Rejoice! Rejoice! Pastor Gay Hall
*Affirmation of Faith The Apostles’ Creed

  I believe in God, the Father Almighty,
maker of heaven and earth;

  And in Jesus Christ his only Son, our Lord;
who was conceived by the Holy Spirit,
born of the Virgin Mary,
suffered under Pontius Pilate,
was crucified, dead, and buried;
the third day he rose from the dead;
he ascended into heaven,
and sitteth at the right hand of God the Father Almighty;
from thence he shall come to judge the quick and the dead.

  I believe in the Holy Spirit,
the holy catholic church,
the communion of saints,
the forgiveness of sins,
the resurrection of the body,
and the life everlasting. Amen.

*The Gloria Patri

  Glory be to the Father

  and to the Son and to the Holy Ghost;

  as it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be,

  world without end.  Amen.
